Fantastic new development for Cystic Fibrosis!

EU Approval for TOBI Podhaler comes as great news for cystic fibrosis patients across the country. TOBI Podhaler, an inhaled therapy for patients with cystic fibrosis, is to be used with patients 6years+ for suppression of chronic lung infections.

“With the approval of the TOBI Podhaler in Europe, and innovative version of an established treatment has become available that will improve the delivery of tobramycin and should have a positive impact on patients’ quality of life”,  said Professor Stuart Elborn, President of the European Cystic Fibrosis Society and Professor of Respiratory Medicine at Queens University.

As a result of this approval, it means that the treatment can now be administered with a user-friendly and compact device in comparison to the previously administered nebuliser. This also reduces the treatment time from 20 minutes down to an amazing 5-6 minutes, delivering a higher level of patient satisfaction.

Dr. Greg Hays of Novartis said “It is an important symbol of our long term commitment to improving the quality of care for patients with this serious and potentially life-threatening disease.”

Eland to sell off EDT

Eland to sell off EDT

Plans to sell Elan’s drug technology business EDT may rise a portion from when Kelly Martin aimed to sell in 2008.

Elan’s EDT is said to be worth $900m should it float on the US Stock market. Elan almost sold off for $1.4bn in 2008 with a number of equities reaching the second round of bidding.

Between the collapse of Lehman Brothers and financial panic, the deal was scuppered.
Here’s hoping the deal goes their way this time around!
