Lilly aquisition of Pfizer Animal Health
A deal has been agreed between Pfizer Animal Health and Lilly which sees a transfer of a number of Pfizer’s assets to Lilly.
The agreement includes the acquisition of one of their Sligo Manufacturing Plants. All staff will be offered positions with Lilly.
European rights to many vaccines, parasiticides and feed additives are being sold off to Elanco, Lilly’s animal health division as part and parcel of its recent procurement of competitor Wyeth.
With the closing of this deal still to be approved, Pfizer are said to be receiving an undisclosed payment upfront.
President of Elanco, Jeff Simmons has welcomed the procurement, saying that Pfizer’s portfolio and plant is “a natural fit for Elanco and positions us well for sustained growth”
“Through this acquisition, we will expand and diversify our European presence with new market-leading products, augment our growing portfolio of companion animal medicines, and acquire new biologic and vaccine capabilities. We are excited about these new opportunities to improve animal health and protein production, and deliver greater value to our customers”

This commitment will include:-

Investing heavily in research and development and enhancing the environment between Academic and market facing commercial interests.
Implementation of a “Green Deal” and moving towards Green Renewable Energies and away from Fossil fuel energy programs.
Promoting Green Collar jobs and Green Enterprise.
Within the Green Collar Jobs sector there are a number of employment possibilities covering such aspects as energy production as well as conservation not simply related to areas such as wind turbine manufacture. Quality versus Quantity used to be a dilemma faced by manufacturers faced by the dual consideration of competition and the diminishing return on investment after cost ie profits.

Welcome again to myscience jobs. Today we will look at the Medical Devices manufacturing industry and the growth in Medical devices job opportunities.
What are medical devices and why has there been such growth? Medical devices consist of an extremely wide variety of products used with a medical purpose in patients applied to such aspects as diagnostics, therapy or surgical and the effect is generally physical.

Further still we have seen the application of plastics in the manufacture of products expand to as diverse a range of products as gas permeable contact lenses, prosthetic limbs, monitoring devices, pacemakers and cheap disposable hypodermics which can now be manufactured in the millions. This has resulted in a massive reduction in cost, allowing access to clean, safe, healthcare / medical devices previously beyond the financial affordability of many people who suffer from long term illnesses requiring for instance the application of insuline, morphine or other life term medicines.
Small wonder then that Ireland has seen an explosion in the number of medical device manufacturing companies which have decided to capitalise on our local skill base and opted to set up in Ireland.
